The Popcorn Story

I love popcorn. It is by far one of my favorite foods, and I have recently discovered a wonderful invention called an air popcorn popper. It makes the most delicious popcorn ever, and I like to tell myself that it is healthier than microwave popcorn. One afternoon I was in full popcorn making mode and went to melt the butter to make the popcorn delicious. I Set the microwave for 30 seconds and hit start. Within 2 seconds the microwave had shut off. Undaunted I tried again only to have the same thing happen again. At this point I started to panic. How could I have popcorn without butter? How did people melt butter for their popcorn before microwaves were invented? Would putting the butter in the oven melt it, or should I use the stove top? At this point I became overwhelmed and yelled for my brother to come help me. I explained to him my dreadful predicament and he punched in 30 seconds on the microwave and hit start. The microwave did not shut off and my butter was melted. My brother thought I was a complete dork for being unable to use a microwave, but I got my buttered popcorn so I was happy.

The next day I came home to find a shiny new microwave in the kitchen. It turns out the microwave was actually broken. This renewed my confidence in my ability to operate a microwave and has allowed me to continue to eat massive amounts of buttered popcorn.

Amazing Race

A new season of Amazing Race has started, and now I will look forward to Sunday evenings all week. After watching the first episode I have decided that Andy and Tommy are my favorite team. They are former Olympic snowboarders, and super cool people. They also did not fight at all. Major bonus!

This is who I will be cheering for every week

My least favorite team was Kaylani and Lisa, former Vegas showgirls. They made a really big mistake a few minutes into the race and then later fought about it.

I will cheer when these ladies are gone

Does anyone else watch The Amazing Race? Who was your favorite and least favorite team?

Cats

On Friday my mom and I went shopping and I found this:

A shirt with a picture of a cat wearing a shirt on it!
I love this shirt so much that I'll probably wear it everyday.
It is by far the best clothing purchase I have ever made.

Thank you cat shirt for being so ridiculously awesome.
You deserve a thumbs up.

Things That Were Awesome This Week

This weeks list of awesomeness

1. This picture

2. My new phone. I have finally joined the world of  smartphones. Yay Dana!
3. My new job. I love my job so much. I'm pretty sure my workplace is all of the happiness in the world condensed into a small bubble. Everyone I work with is so happy and nice, and I get to go outside when I work. Also it is socially acceptable to wear shorts and sandals so I have started wearing shorts to work. It's a dream!
4. Getting to eat at Peters'. It is the best burger and milkshake joint in the city. It was delicious and I got to enjoy it with my entire family!

5. Only having a four day workweek. We got Monday off because it was Heritage Day. Although I am loving my new job it is exhausting. Pushing wheelchairs is hard work! I am so happy it's the weekend.
6. Having a client that I worked with tell me that that I spent with her was the best day of her entire life. Although I don't think that is entirely true it was the sweetest thing EVER and I am so glad that she had a good day.
7. Institute. I have never liked institute but I decided to try it out this summer. It is the best part of my week. Institute is awesome. I love that midweek I can come and be spiritually uplifted.
8.  The letter I got from my friend.

A Place I Love

The Tuesday after the Forth of July weekend by Ancient Political Theory teacher noticed my accent and asked me where I was from. I told her I was from Canada owe of my classmates was surprised and then asked me in dismay, “What did you DO for the Fourth?” She then seemed surprised when I told her about the lovely day that I had spent in Idaho Falls. I mean really what was I supposed to do? Spend the day in my apartment looking at a wall while contemplating my non-American-ness?

This encounter somewhat hurt my feelings and confused me a little bit. It has really got me thinking about how much I really do love America. Although I am not a citizen of the country I still appreciate and love the country. I kind of feel like it is how parents love all of their children and not just their oldest. I love Canada, but I also love the United States.

I love how the people love their country and not afraid to tell you that they do. I love how they are interested in their government and form strong opinions about issues. I love how they have multiple different patriotic songs and know they words to all of them. I love how they respect the people in the military. I love how they know their countries history.

I have had some of the best experiences of my life in the United States. I have met some of the most incredible people who are lifelong friends, seen beautiful sunsets, eaten amazing food, matured a lot, furthered my education, walked along sandy beaches, strengthened my testimony, and made decisions that will impact the rest of my life. I wouldn’t trade these things for anything!

I feel so blessed that I have the opportunity to live in the United States and attend the amazing BYU-Idaho.

I love America, and I love all the amazing opportunities and experiences that it has given me.

{I would love to visit here someday}

Observations About Being Home

The following is a list of things that have been of interest to me since I have been home:

My family got me the most adorable birthday cake of life
{The fact the Hooray was Deliberately misspelled makes the cake more awesome}

I now how the ability to hear the accent that Canadians have with their O's. Particularly when people say hello to me. I have thought that multiple people who have said hello to me have a German accent, this interesting me so I talk to them more and then realize that I am just hearing a boring Canadian accent.
{Yay for lederhosen}
Ikea now has stuffed toys that are shaped like vegetables. I think mothers everywhere are rejoicing.
{Maybe if a child has a toy shaped like broccoli they will want to eat it? I mean real broccoli not the toy.}

After a year in a half of searching I have found the leather jacket of my dreams. When I saw the jacket the heavens opened and a choir of angels started to sing. This abruptly stopped when the store didn't have my size. My wallet is happy about this, my closet is not.
{The lining of this jacket is striped. Could it be any more perfect?}

My head might explode if I hear Katy Perry's Last Friday Night again
{This is the face I make whenever the song comes of the radio. I feel your pain Katy}

My optometrist told me that all my studying has wrecked my eyesight. I am not happy about my poor vision, but am glad that I finally have an excuse to get new glasses

{See above photo for the glasses I plan to get. They will look super cool with my nonexistent leather jacket}

Garage Sales

You know those people who find incredibly awesome things at ridiculously low prices at garage sales? I am not one of those people. Every garage sale I have ever looked at has consisted mostly of old knickknacks and unused exercise equipment. To make garage sales more interesting my Dad has come up with a list of things that he wants to buy from a garage sale. It is so good that I can't resit sharing it!

Item 1: Devo Hat

Item 2: Kit Kat Clock

Item 3: Hamburger Phone

Item 4: Leg Lamp

If anyone sees any of these things at a garage sale please let me know.

Happy Birthday Canada

Dear Canada,

Happy 144th Birthday
On this very day in 1867 you officially became a country. How exciting.
Also, you should know that this birthday is extra special because William and Kate are visiting from England and are going to celebrate Canada day with all of the Canadians.

And to everyone else,

Happy Canada Day! I hope you get to eat lots of pancakes  and bacon today.

P.S. Say hello to the motherland for me. I miss it.

The Crazy Girl On Campus

On Friday I was walking from the Austin building to the library, since it was a Friday afternoon the campus was deserted, so I had my ipod in and was walking at a leisurely stroll when I felt my skirt start to slide down. I looked down and there was a girl PULLING DOWN MY SKIRT! She then informed me that my skirt was riding up in the back, and that she would want someone to do the same for her. She then continued to tug on my skirt. There were multiple things I could have done in this situation including:

-Going into complete ninja mode and pushing the girl away
-Screaming, "Stay away from me you freak!" and then running away
-Seek revenge and start to pull her pants down
-Informing her that her action was totally inappropriate

Sadly I didn't do any of these, and instead THANKED the creepy skirt pulling down girl for her help and walked away.

So to all you sisters at BYU-I y'all best be watching your skirts

Rapture

Since the world is going to end today I thought I would leave off with a song.

Somehow this video manages to be creepy and hilarious all at once

Thoughts About Jelly Shoes and Ellie Goulding

 Lately I've been noticing lots of girls on campus wearing shoes that look like this:

My reaction is always, "Ewwww jelly shoes. Sick" Followed by some confusion because I'm pretty sure I owned a pair of jelly shoes when I was nine.

That changed today when an email from Little Burgundy found its way into my inbox. This email contained pictures of some of the most adorable jelly shoes on Earth.

Like this pair. If I ever become the owner of these gorgeous shoes I will never take them off.
Plus, they have butterfly on them!

I have been proven wrong. Jelly shoes do not have to be terribly hideous, they can actually be extremely cute.

This week I have become obsessed with Ellie Goulding. Obsessed to the point that I deleted fifteen applications off of my ipod in order to make room for her album, forced all of my roommates to listen to one of her songs, and have come up with five different plots to go to one of her concerts.

Prepare to be amazed.

End of Semester Blues

The last two weeks of the semester are what I refer to as "Heck week".

Heck week is one continuous nightmare of studying and papers.

It is no sleep and unhealthy food

It is when 'home' becomes the library

It is when you are grumpy but can't show it

It is when you know that it will all be over soon!

Yo Ho (A Pirates Life for Me)

Pirates of the the Caribbean is my absolute favorite ride at Disneyland. I absolutely adore it! I love to watch and listen to all of the 'characters' on the ride and sometimes I forget that they aren't real! I own an insane amount of pirates merchandise from the gift shop outside of the ride. My favorite being a flag with a skull on it that says 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. The first time I moved away from home to go to school I took the flag off my wall so I could move it to my apartment. My mom walked into my room after I did this and commented that my room looked empty without it.

Lately I've been dreaming lots about Pirates of the Caribbean and couldn't figure out why. Then it occurred to me tonight. I missed Pirates of the Caribbean's birthday! The ride was officially opened at Disneyland on March 18th, 1967.

So without further delay:
Happy 44th Birthday Pirates of the Caribbean!
You make my life better everyday!
Love, Dana

Has Spring Finally Arrived?

The sun is shining, the snow is melting, and it rained last night. This can only mean one thing:
SPRING IS COMING!

No more frozen toes, fingers, or noses!
No more wearing a scar wherever I go!
No more wool socks!

In other news....

I had quite the little saga happen this week with my purple computer. On Sunday night when I plugged in my computer to charge nothing happened! Worst feeling ever. As a student my laptop is extremely important to me. I think I would die without it. So I spent Sunday night running around the house testing every outlet to see if my changer works in any of them. After much distress I found an outlet that worked.....in the bathroom. Ya, not cool. Unfortionatly it only worked momentarily, and I was left with no way to charge my purple computer.

On Monday Drizzle drove me over to Radio Shack to see if they had a charger that would work for my computer. they did but it was $100. So we ended up going to Best Buy in Idaho Falls to get a charger there. The sales people assured me that the charger they had would work with my computer, so I bought it. With eagerness when I got home I tried out the new charger and it worked! The only catch was the it only POWERED my purple computer, it would not CHARGE it. Having to constantly be plugged into a wall is no good, sometimes there just isn't an outlet around to plug your laptop into!

I finally ended up calling Dell and had a lovely conversation with a person in India who had poor English skills. Despite the language barrier I was able to order a new charger. It arrived yesterday and works perfectly. Crises over!

Weekend in Provo

A few weekends ago I went to go visit Sheilagh in Provo. I left Saturday morning at 5:00 in the morning, and after a very long cold bus ride I arrived in Provo. It was a bit rainy, but Sheilagh's roommate lent us umbrellas.

We waked around the BYU campus and saw lots of cool things, like the bell tower

And fun signs

Sheilagh also took me for lunch at Cafe Rio. It was soooo good!

It was a fantastic weekend that (like all weekends) ended too soon!

Halfway Done

Today marks the end of first block. That means the semester is HALF OVER already. It also means that I am done my math class. I am absolutely ecstatic about this; it will be such a relief to not have to worry about math homework every night! I am also looking forward to having more time to study for my other classes.

It's also Presidents Day weekend (Family Day in Canada) and we get Monday off so I am going to Provo to visit Sheilagh. I'm really excited to to get out of Rexburg for a few days and to have wonderfully fun times with Sheilagh. It sounds like she has an incredibly fun weekend planned for us.

January's Happenings

I've been back in Rexburg for just under a month. Here are some of the highlights:

Living with one of my best friends Jenna. I love sharing a room with her and discussions before bed. It's truly a miracle that we get any sleep at all!

Hanging my map of Canada poster. It seriously took me an hour and half a roll of tape to get this poster on the wall only to have it fall down on me at 4:00am.

Attending LeeAnna's mission farewell in Utah.

Jenna's car breaking down on the highway in Utah.

The tower of stools. I'm pretty sure I didn't shut of door completely when I left for FHE. Someone came into our apartment and made this lovely sculpture for us.

The consumption of many Animal Crackers. I added chocolate to the mix this year. They have popular, and I have been told that they are delicious with peanut butter.

Rain Boots

In the slushy Rexburg winters there is really nothing better than rain boots! They allow me to walk though every puddle I see on my way to class, and keep my toes warm and dry. I adore them and wear them nearly everyday.

And they are just so cute!
